In the cross of Christ I glory,
Towering o’er the wrecks of time;
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime.
When the woes of life overtake me,
Hopes deceive and fears annoy;
Never shall the cross forsake me:
Lo! it glows with peace and joy.
When the sun of bliss is beaming
Light and love upon my way,
From the cross the radiance streaming
Adds new luster to the day.
Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure,
By the cross are sanctified;
Peace is there that knows no measure,
Joys that through all time abide.

Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
(It is a good thing to consider the cross at times other than Easter. The awful death Christ died. The terrible penalty for sin, for my sin. It is when we begin to grasp the depths of our sinfulness, we realize we have no other claim but the cross. It puts the rest of life in perspective. There is no failure- no wreck of time- it cannot overcome. There is no joy by which it can be surpassed. It is a marvel that God holds those two in perfect tension. It is there we find our identity, our hope, and our victory. It is there we find our glory.)
